Why Skid Runners and Slip Sheets Matter on Every Outbound Load

Small, low-cost pieces of board that protect the bottom of your load, keep layers stable and cut freight damage.

The products at the bottom of a pallet take the most abuse: forklift tines, rough pallet boards, uneven trailer floors and the weight of everything stacked above. Skid runners and slip sheets are simple, inexpensive ways to protect them.

Skid runners

Skid runners are strips of board placed between the pallet and the load, or along the base of a load, to give it a clean, even surface to sit on. They help keep finished products off splintered or uneven pallet boards and spread the weight more evenly.

Common materials: SBS board for a clean, bright surface, or linerboard and chipboard for economical strength.

Slip sheets and layer pads

Slip sheets and layer pads go between tiers of product. They keep layers from shifting into each other, protect finished surfaces from the layer above and make loads more stable on the truck.

Common materials: linerboard and chipboard for most loads, and corrugated poly where you want something waterproof and reusable.

Why it pays off

  • Fewer damage claims: the bottom layer arrives looking like the top layer.
  • More stable loads: separated, even layers are less likely to shift in transit.
  • Faster packing: pieces cut to your exact pallet and part size go down in seconds with no trimming on the floor.
